Our ecumenical, multi-church SE PDX Youth Collective welcomes Middle and High school community youth as well as church youth. We occasionally connect with the Downtown PDX Youth Collective and the NE PDX Collective. Our SE PDX identity:

  • Grounded in relationships, we accompany youth and faith communities by sharing our stories, listening deeply, and discerning faithful and just action.
  • We seek to build trust and create a safe space where youth feel respected and welcome to share their pressures, hopes, and questions.
  • Amidst a culture of achievement, we make time for fun, relaxation, and celebration.
  • Youth and adults co-lead an ongoing process of action and reflection, where the learning directs our next steps.
Background

In the Spring of 2016, a few youth workers from SE Portland with similar interests in more expansive possibilities for the greater church body began to meet together regularly.  We pondered how together we might provide more transformative experiences for youth, based partially on our collective 40+ combined years of youth ministry, but more especially on where the Spirit seemed to be leading in new ways!

For nearly 6 months, we met and dreamed about how we might serve youth more fully together, before officially kicking off the ‘SE Portland Youth Collective’ activities, starting in the winter of 2016/2017 with the longings we identified for our youth.  We’ve been adapting and experimenting together ever since!
