Outreach Ministry at Creator
Day Camp
Day Camp is a summer program we offer to Creator kids and community kids. We partner with Camp Lutherwood for this outreach ministry. For one week each summer we have around 75 campers (70 percent of whom are non-members) and around 25-30 volunteers. Children experience God in an exciting way through Bible adventure, worship, arts and crafts, creation, servant projects, campfires, songs about pasta, and more.
Day Camp 2007 was a huge success! Pictures are on the photos page. See you at Day Camp 2008!
Hunger Awareness
The Hunger Awareness Committee meets quarterly. Current activities include:
Oregon Food Bank
Food donations for the Oregon Food Bank are collected each Sunday. Additionally we gather to
participate in Oregon Food Bank Work Days, where members of all ages volunteer a morning of work
and help the Food Bank fulfill it's mission. Our last OFB work day was on April 5th, 2008.
Thanks to all of the volunteers!
Backpack Buddies
Creator formed a Backpack Buddies program to help feed hungry children in our community: 72 percent
of students at Clackamas Elementary qualify for free or reduced lunch, and some of those children
lack adequate nutrition over the weekends when they don’t receive school meals. Backpack Buddies
alleviates hunger for some of those children by providing a small sack of food (to be slipped
discreetly into the child’s backpack by school staff).
Donations from friends of Creator totalled over $3000 in the spring of 2007 for this new program. In May 2007, Creator's Backpack Buddies leadership was granted $750 from the Oregon Synod Endowment.
FOODS (Food in Oregon Offered During the Summer)
Creator is among churches in the area volunteering for the FOODS program. This summer lunch program
is run for 6 weeks through the North Clackamas School District.
Creator's volunteer week for 2007 was
July 23rd - 26th.
Summer Movie Nights
Come and join us for summer movie nights. Each selection has a hunger and/or poverty theme and all
are family friendly. We will have time after the show for Q/A and discussion.
2007 Summer Movie Night Schedule:
July 18 - Sullivan's Travels
July 25 - The Grapes of Wrath
August 1 - Sparrows
August 8 - The Southerner
All films start at 7:00 p.m.
Reconciling in Christ
Reconciling in Christ is a program to recognize Lutheran congregations that welcome lesbian and gay believers. Creator has formed a committee to explore Creator's becoming an official Reconciling in Christ congregation.
Gretchen Brauer-Rieke's January 2008 presentation can be read here.
Bishop Dave's July 2008 Bible study can be viewed at the Oregon Synod's website: www.oregonsynod.org/bookoffaith/hhh

More information can be found on the Lutherans Concerned/North America site.
Habitat for Humanity
Creator is a charter member of the Clackamas County Coalition for Habitat for Humanity. Habitiat for Humanity constructs low-cost housing for those who could not otherwise afford decent housing. See the bulletin board outside Pastor Dayle's office for more information.
On April 29th, 2007, a contingent from Creator attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a townhouse build in Canby. The home was dedicated on December 22, 2007. If you are interested in helping out with future projects, please contact Paul Kemp.
Project Start-Right
Creator collects school supplies for needy children in late July and early August to help them get a good start on the school year.
American Red Cross
Creator has blood drives each year in September and in February to help the American Red Cross.
Bone Marrow Donor Drive
Creator encourages people to become donors, periodically offering sign-up sheets.
Lutheran World Hunger and Domestic Disaster Relief
Creator provides opportunities to support both of these Lutheran relief organizations.
Equal Exchange Coffee
Creator purchases its fellowship coffee from the Equal Exchange Coffee Program through Lutheran World Relief. This fairly traded coffee purchase helps to provide a living wage for the coffee growers through co-op marketing. To purchase for your home, call the church office.
Living Green
Creator is working to become a 'green' congregation through current practices, and, in the future, through building design. We are working through Ecumenical Power and Light to become ever more aware of the possibilities of leaving creation better for the next generations.
Additional Outreach Activities
In addition to giving generously to the ELCA, Creator also gives a percentage of its offering each month to Clackamas Women's Services, which provides aid for victims of domestic abuse.
